Sewing Together

My cousin came down from Las Vegas last week and stayed for a week because we needed to get some of her projects done. I had to stop myself from putting in ten exclamation points!!! First off, she wants to do a French theme in her daughter's bedroom and a year ago picked out the fabric to do it but I said I'd do it and I just couldn't without a deadline, if you know what I mean. So I made her come down and we did it together. Super simple but they're going to be beautiful when Natalia from Piece 'N Quilt finishes with them.
The Arc De Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower

We then finished her sister's quilt retreat quilt with borders.
And while we always have wonderful ideas for making our daughters awesome dresses, we only got around to making Chelsea a pair of linen pants. They're super cute and I have a pair cut out and waiting for me to put together. Note: I've decided that pockets are a must. They take more time but make a garment so much more useful.

And at the end of the week she made us the most delicious dinner. You roast tomatoes over garlic and bacon, pinch the skins of, cover the tomatoes with sausage and bake until the sausage is done. It turns into a ragu that you put over mashed potatoes (with lots of butter!). The garlic cloves are soft and you mash them and mix them in with the potatoes, tomatoes and sausage. I can't believe how much I enjoyed it. She said it was a Jamie Oliver recipe with just a few changes. Look it up!

Buggy Barn Class at Seasons

One of our great teachers, Tamara, taught a Buggy Barn Quilt called prairie stars today and a ton of fun was had by all.

They could choose to do a table runner or the full quilt but the class just helped them get a handle on the technique. The full quilt kit and book are available on the Seasons of Home website.

Beginner Take It Away!

My last beginning sewing class was a lot of fun and my students were absolutely wonderful. Cyndi Mansur in particular seemed to take to it like a duck to water. Her seams were as close to perfect as you could get and I was really impressed. She came into the store yesterday and shared this...

She used three of the blocks we did in our sampler runner and figured out one more block to make it four, did a small green border around each four block section and sashed it in bright red. This is a wedding present for her son and it's absolutely beautiful. She picked these same fabrics for her table runner and used the skills that were taught in my class, just on a larger scale. She said she just stuck to things she knew she could do and WOW!!!

She has already started doing her own thing, an idea that most quilters really love. Sometimes it's actually hard for me to follow a pattern! I was at my quilt retreat for Heber Valley Quilters Guild last weekend and Tricia Mathis, an awesome quilt designer (she's on craftsy.com) said she hasn't followed a pattern in years. Cyndi made this queen sized quilt using the pattern for a small table runner. I love it!

Bright Chevron Quilt

This is my newest quilt for Seasons of Home. It is "Bright Eyed Chevron". The fabric is "Garden Wall" by Laura Gunn for Micheal Miller fabrics. My cousin is a brand new quilter and she started her own club in Las Vegas with friends and they wanted a Chevron quilt so she came up with this and I used it as inspiration for my own. It's made with 5" squares, made into half square triangles. I love how it turned out in this new line of fabric at Seasons of Home.

It is at the quilter, Natalia at PieceN'Quilt, as we speak!
