Beginner Take It Away!

My last beginning sewing class was a lot of fun and my students were absolutely wonderful. Cyndi Mansur in particular seemed to take to it like a duck to water. Her seams were as close to perfect as you could get and I was really impressed. She came into the store yesterday and shared this...

She used three of the blocks we did in our sampler runner and figured out one more block to make it four, did a small green border around each four block section and sashed it in bright red. This is a wedding present for her son and it's absolutely beautiful. She picked these same fabrics for her table runner and used the skills that were taught in my class, just on a larger scale. She said she just stuck to things she knew she could do and WOW!!!

She has already started doing her own thing, an idea that most quilters really love. Sometimes it's actually hard for me to follow a pattern! I was at my quilt retreat for Heber Valley Quilters Guild last weekend and Tricia Mathis, an awesome quilt designer (she's on craftsy.com) said she hasn't followed a pattern in years. Cyndi made this queen sized quilt using the pattern for a small table runner. I love it!

Bright Chevron Quilt

This is my newest quilt for Seasons of Home. It is "Bright Eyed Chevron". The fabric is "Garden Wall" by Laura Gunn for Micheal Miller fabrics. My cousin is a brand new quilter and she started her own club in Las Vegas with friends and they wanted a Chevron quilt so she came up with this and I used it as inspiration for my own. It's made with 5" squares, made into half square triangles. I love how it turned out in this new line of fabric at Seasons of Home.

It is at the quilter, Natalia at PieceN'Quilt, as we speak!

Patriot Pinwheels

I'm in love with pinwheels. Can't get enough!

Riley Blake's new 4th of July fabric is perfect. One of the fabrics is... Pinwheels! Another is awesome stars. I just loved it and made this to use as my July throw. I've started to think I need to change every month or so to a themed throw blanket, so this is just the beginning!

Car Seat Fabulous

I had to do it. My baby threw up in her carseat and, strangely enough, I considered it a great opportunity. So I took it apart completely, always something of a jigsaw and did some creative magic on it. I had put the butterfly ribbon (which is at Seasons of Home) on during a previous bout of optimism but you only have one night before you have to get it back in the car.

The soft grey stuff was on it and looks great so I just decided to cover the rather cheesy pink floral with this great fabric (I don't have a before picture darn it). I actually had to hand applique the fabric to the bottom seat. My fingers are still tender because my thimble was somewhere else and there's plastic in many parts of the cover which can surprise you and make you stick your finger. Anyway, yay it's done.

It's A Beaut!

Wow, my sisters' quilt retreat quilt finally has borders which means it's ready to go to the Natalia at Piece'NQuilt . I bordered mine in green and mitred the corners because I chose a striped fabric for the large border.

My cousin did hers in the pretty pink flower and she actually gets two from the weekend. They are perfect for her daughters' youth sized beds. I can't wait to see the girls' new room.  She picked the most beautiful minky colors too. Really bright aqua and green.

Snowman Block of the Month

Here are the first two blocks for our snowman block of the month, or at least the background block. I fully intend to finish them this week but right now I'm busy sewing table toppers for a church party.

Sisters Quilt Retreat

Busy, busy, busy bees!
I helped my grandma and mom organize a sisters' quilt retreat for my sisters, aunt and cousins. It was a lot of fun and a lot of work.

There were nine of us there.

There was also a lot of diet coke, dr pepper and a few Coke Zeroes.
 Hand applique!
Two babies joined us. They were too young to leave at home.
Chain piecing comes in handy when you are doing 9 complete quilts.
 Ironing love.

Look at those piles, we're almost done!
Beautiful rows ready to get put together.
My grandma and cousin did most of the hand appliqued flowers. We machine appliqued the stems.
